GREEK FINANCIAL MARKET
The General Index in Athens Stock Exchange (ASE) closed at 964.19 posting profits of 1.25%, registering another 16-month high, in a turnover of €65.32mn.
The Prime Minister Mr. Antonis Samaras will meet the German Chancellor Ms. Angela Merkel tomorrow in Berlin in the context of his visit to Germany to participate in a conference organized by Die Welt. The same day, the Public Debt Management Agency will auction €750mn of one-month treasury bills and €1.25bn of six-month paper.
The new tax bill, aimed at raising €2.5bn over the next two years, must be voted through Parliament by the end of this week, ahead of the Eurogroup summit on January 21 where officials will decide whether to give Greece further rescue funding.
- Greek Banks:NBG applied for an extension to the process of acquiring the healthy assets of Hellenic Postbank. Along with the expected offers by Alpha Bank and Attica Bank, the HFSF received separate bids from NBG and Eurobank, due to the fact that their merger is still pending.
